What is OogliveOoglive is a development of the idea of OOG online a special page in the Volkskrant online , the online edition of the national daily newspaper ‘De Volkskrant’, in which artists are invited to give their visual comments on the news. Ooglive takes this idea a step further and places the artist in a new context: live and on stage
Ooglive plays with the desire for certainty and clarity and with the restlessness that a continuous news stream provoke in us. Playing with the notion that there is a ‘Cultural Canon’, Friday evening the 29th of September was our ‘Canon of the News’. It was artists who got the role of intermediary and opinion leader so, as artists are usually more comfortable with ambiguity, we expected the audience to leave with more questions than answers. By giving artists the role of critics, Ooglive places serious doubts upon today’s search for clarity, and on the role and function of the news.
"You're going to be told a lot of things. You get told things every day that don't happen. It doesn't seem to bother people. It's printed in the press. The world thinks all these things happen. They never happened. Everyone's so eager to get the story, before in fact the story's there. The world is constantly being fed things that haven't happened. All I can tell you is, It hasn't happened. But it's going to happen."
